In arriving in St. Lucie County for an art residency meant that some old locations would be rediscovered, checking to see what has been changed my nature, or humans. Then, new locations explored for a range of possibilities that need to teased out of them. Round Island (below) is such a location. Although, weekends always bring out scores of people to recreation areas, such location always have enough quiet zones where one can have the feeling of some isolation. The population increasing in the St. Lucie and Indian River Counties means that visitation days have to be chosen when there is likely to be less people. The same actually could be said for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. My return trip will need to focus more on the border between St. Lucie and Martin Counties. This is where the St. Lucie River bisects the landscape and allows drainage of Lake Okeechobee out into the Atlantic Ocean. There is another outlet on the western side of the lake as well.
Before returning to the Indian River Lagoon, I have an exhibition to complete and install at the FIU Frost Museum (main campus) as part of the honors college course, Aesthetics & Values, which opens on Wednesday, 12 February, 2014.
Osprey waiting for the evil human (me) to depart so it can eat its mullet. I was about 25 feet (7.62 meters) away.
